Pedilay® and the nursing crisis: why state-of-the-art wound care is more necessary today than ever before
Many people are concerned about the crisis in the nursing sector: the people themselves, politicians and, of course, the manufacturers of medical devices. This is because the shortage of nursing staff means that the day-to-day work in hospitals, geriatric and nursing care or outpatient wound care has to be constantly optimised - both in terms of time management and costs.
The nursing care crisis in Germany as an example[1]: the hard facts
However, Germany is not the only country in need: the UK, Canada, Sweden and the Netherlands are also struggling with the effects of the shortage of skilled staff and are finding it difficult to maintain the high quality of nursing care[2]. And even worldwide, between 40 and 80 per cent of people who work in the care sector report high levels of psychological stress - no wonder therefore that the intention to resign in this occupational group has risen to more than 20 per cent[3].
Add to this that in many countries the average number of older people in the population is not only increasing - people themselves are also growing older. And with each passing year, the likelihood of a person falling ill, suffering from chronic wounds or even needing nursing care increases.

The Pedilay® products were developed to make working life easier for physicians, nursing staff as well as podiatry professionals:
State-of-the-art wound care with innovative secondary dressings
The ready-to-use secondary dressings Pedilay® foot and Pedilay® leg are suitable for the treatment of chronic wounds, such as those caused by diabetic foot syndrome, leg ulcers or pressure sores. These innovative dressing materials are also suitable for post operative wound care, as they provide ideal fixation for primary dressings.
The Pedilay® advantages at a glance:
- Ready-to-use
Unpack, open the hook and loop fasteners, apply the dressing, close the hook and loop fasteners - and that's it. Scissors or additional fixation materials are not necessary. - Flexible
These bandages can also be quickly adapted to deformed extremities due to to the non-woven fabric and the hook and loop fasteners. - Quick and easy to use
Time-consuming adjustments to the secondary dressing are no longer necessary with Pedilay®. This relieves the burden on nursing staff and ensures efficient workflows. - Can reduce material costs
All Pedilay® products can be opened and reclosed several times. Checking the wound can be performed without changing the secondary dressing. - Skin-friendly
Pedilay® products are made of soft, seam- and edge-free non-woven fabric that does not rub against the skin, is air-permeable and does not create wrinkles that can cause pressure points. - Comfortable
Extremities that have been treated with a Pedilay® secondary dressing can also be readjusted by the patients themselves owing to the hook and loop fasteners. - Patented
The ready-to-use Pedilay® foot dressing is patented, the ready-to-use Pedilay® leg lower leg dressing is patent pending.
As you can see: Pedilay® makes life easier – for physicians, nursing staff, patients and their relatives. And that worldwide.
