Wound care of the foot: material-saving and efficient
Whether for the fixation of primary dressings or wound dressings - Pedilay® foot optimises the care of chronic wounds. The reason being that this ready-to-use secondary dressing is not only quick and easy to apply, but also requires neither scissors nor fixation plasters.

Ready to Use foot bandage without accessories
In the treatment of chronic and post-operative wounds, conventional secondary dressings or tubular bandages can only be applied with the aid of scissors and fixation plasters. They therefore cost the nursing staff valuable time.
Pedilay® foot bandage, on the other hand, is very easy to use and requires no additional materials. This is due to the following factors:
- Wide opening
- Hook and loop fasteners
- Excellent fit
- Different sizes
User-friendliness and wearing comfort
The ready-to-use foot dressing can be used on both the left as well as the right foot and is characterised by soft material without hard edges and uncomfortable seams.
Pedilay® foot offers physicians and nursing staff a genuine reduction in workload and patients more quality of life:
- Secure and lasting fixation of the dressing
- No pressure points
- Correct fit without compression
- Also suitable for deformities associated with the diabetic foot syndrome
Reducing costs – increasing the quality of care
Everyone is talking about the nursing crisis. Relieving staff and making workflows more efficient is the order of the day. As Pedilay® foot is so easy and uncomplicated to apply, this offers further advantages in day-to-day care:
- Can be opened and closed repeatedly due to hook and loop fasteners
- This makes it easy to check the wound without changing the dressing
- Can be combined with conventional and modern primary wound dressings
- Quick and easy to remove after application
Pedilay® foot – a future-oriented decision that can save costs
Particularly in long-term treatment, such as the diabetic foot syndrome, wound healing disorders or the treatment of pressure sores, the material costs and care expenditure add up enormously. This makes the potential savings in material costs resulting from the patented Pedilay® foot in wound management all the more noticeable on the bottom line.
Secondary dressing with innovative design

Adjustable
The ready-to-use foot dressing is flexible and adaptable. This is ensured by the elastic material and the hook and loop fasteners. These can be opened and closed several times, for example to inspect the wound. For a perfect fit, it can be readjusted at any time - by the nursing staff and the patients themselves.

Skin-friendly
The inner layer of Pedilay® foot consists of a non-woven fabric which is particularly soft. It causes only minimal friction on the skin and features no hard edges or uncomfortable seams. Furthermore, the foot dressing is air-permeable. The product is intended as a secondary dressing to be used on intact skin.
Pedilay® foot: designed for state-of-the-art wound care on the foot
Several factors contribute to the outstanding product properties of Pedilay® foot, which prove themselves in everyday care with every application:
- The material and its elasticity
- The design
- The adaptability
Owing to these properties, the patented secondary dressing can also be used in medical podiatry.
Two layers of non-woven fabric with elastic threads
The soft, skin-friendly and air-permeable non-woven fabric owes its elastic properties to special integrated threads.
This allows the ready-to-use foot dressing - once the correct size has been selected - to adapt perfectly to the anatomical shape of the foot.
This even works in the case of deformities, such as those that often occur in the wound care of diabetic feet.
Designed for a perfect fit
The design was developed in such a manner that the adaptable secondary dressing covers the foot up to the ankle.
It features a wide opening at the back of the foot. The user-friendly hook and loop fasteners facilitate application.
Pedilay® foot can be used on both the left as well as the right foot. The foot dressing is available in different sizes.
The key: the hook and loop fastener system
Hook and loop fasteners are attached to the opening. This allows Pedilay® foot to be applied securely without additional fixation plasters.
Due to the hook and loop fasteners, this patented secondary dressing can also be opened and reclosed at all times.
For example, this makes it easier to inspect the wounds - and unlike with tubular bandages, it is therefore not necessary to change the dressing on the foot. This also allows fixation to be readjusted.
Convenient for physicians, nursing staff as well as patients
Pedilay® foot significantly simplifies work for the users: applying this ready-to-use secondary dressing is easy, quick and requires no accessories. For patients with a chronic wound, wound care with Pedilay® foot as a secondary dressing means a better quality of life. The reason being that this dressing resembles a stocking which also encloses the toes. Patients usually find this pleasant, as they no longer have to put on a stocking over the dressing. This state-of-the-art type of wound care also makes everyday practice easier in medical podiatry.

Future-orientated wound care in times of the nursing crisis
The fact that Pedilay® foot is truly easy and extremely quick to use has a huge impact on the quality of care. This is because many of the problems which are commonplace with conventional secondary dressings on the foot do not arise in the first place with this innovative, patented dressing.
Pedilay® foot bandage can also be applied safely by laypersons
What is cumbersome with conventional dressings and requires a considerable amount of expertise is child's play with Pedilay® foot. Even the patients themselves or their relatives are able to apply the foot dressing safely, which is particularly beneficial in the long term in the case of chronic wounds.
Unlike tubular bandages, the hook and loop fasteners make it possible to examine the wound without changing the dressing, and should this be necessary, it can be done very quickly and effortlessly. There is basically nothing one can do wrong, as the product comes complete with Instructions for Use.
Pedilay® foot therefore minimises the risk of excessive compression or the formation of wrinkles which can cause pressure sores.
The disadvantages of conventional secondary dressings on the foot
Complicated: The safe application of conventional secondary dressings is a complex procedure and requires comprehensive training.
Prone to error: Improper application leads to unnecessary dressing changes. There is also a risk of excessive compression or damage to the skin due to wrinkling, which can lead to pressure sores.
Material-intensive: The dressing must be modelled and cut as required, and fixation plasters and scissors are also required. Material leftovers must be disposed of.
Everyone involved benefits from this patented innovation
Medical institutions such as hospitals and care services can optimise their care and save on materials.
Professional users such as physicians and nursing staff gain more time for other tasks and can examine the wound quickly and without changing the dressing.
Patients experience a pleasant wearing comfort and as a consequence improved quality of life. Relatives also experience relief.
Pedilay® foot: applying the foot bandage correctly
It all depends on the correct size
The ready-to-use foot bandage fits correctly if there are no cavities, gaps or wrinkles and the material does not exert any compression. In other words, it must not be too loose or too tight. As application in itself is very simple, the choice of the correct size plays a decisive role.
Pedilay® foot may only be applied to intact skin - wounds must therefore first be covered with a wound dressing. The circumference of the primary dressing and the wound dressings may make it necessary to adjust the size. If the feet are very voluminous, swollen, malformed or have been partially amputated, this should also be taken into account when choosing the size.
We recommend to pull on Pedilay® foot sitting or lying down. A change is required daily for acute, infectious wounds, otherwise if soiled, overstretched or torn, and also every time the primary dressing is changed. Unlike with tubular bandages, it is not absolutely necessary to change the dressing to check the wound - because the hook and loop fasteners can be reclosed.
FAQ – our answers to frequently asked questions about Pedilay® foot
Nurse Carsten Hampel-Kalthoff on Pedilax in practice:
"My name is Carsten Hampel-Kalthoff. I am a nurse by profession and have specialised in supporting, caring for and treating people with chronic wounds.
I have completed further training for this purpose: I am the head nurse of three nursing practices - these are therapeutic care centres for people with chronic wounds. My motivation is to support people with chronic wounds, to help them get fit and to enable them to cope well with their chronic illness. What I pay particular attention to is that the long-term goal of healing the wound is not necessarily a given priority. Instead, the priority is to improve the quality of life of the people affected as quickly as possible – and also that of their relatives, who are usually very heavily involved in the care process.
In our daily work, it makes sense for us to work with products that do not endanger our patients and which can also be applied more easily or securely in the course of our daily work. These Pedilay products, in particular the Pedilay® foot, offer the possibility of ensuring fixation of the dressing material very simply. You can fit them nice and softly to conform well to body contours, which means I don't create a circular constriction, but can achieve an even pressure distribution - a very gentle pressure distribution.
Another advantage of working with such products is that, as part of educating patients and their relatives, we have the opportunity to demonstrate a relatively secure fixation – or one that can be easily applied by relatives or even by patients themselves if necessary.
Another benefit for patients is: the toes are enclosed! For example, it is very uncomfortable for patients with bare feet to wear shoes. As a rule, patients then usually still wear a stocking over the dressing. I don't need that with Pedilay® leg because I already have good fixation which resembles a stocking. If the patient has only had the dressing fixed with the Pedilay® leg and starts moving around at home and notices that everything is starting to slip, it becomes loose. This gives him/her the opportunity to refasten the dressing again by him/herself as we have a hook and loop fastener. And this gives the patient added security, knowing that there is no risk of the entire dressing slipping.
What we can really use in our daily work are dressing materials that are safe, simple and comfortable for the patient to use. This product is an innovation and a joy to work with. I am convinced that, in addition to enjoying the experience, I can also improve the patients' quality of life as they are very comfortable to wear.“
